Kopin Corporation was incorporated in Delaware in 1984. The company is a developer of Golden-i technologies and display products. Golden-i technologies are used to create hands-free voice and gesture controlled wireless computing systems mainly worn on the head that include an optical pod featuring its proprietary miniature flat panel displays. Golden-i technologies integrate a variety of commercially available software packages such as Microsoft Windows CE, Nuance Dragon NaturallySpeaking and Hillcrest Labs with its proprietary software and CyberDisplay products to create a reference design which it license to customers who wish to develop mobile industrial products. Its display products consist of miniature, high performance, high resolution displays either sold separately or in various configurations with optical lenses and electronics contained in either plastic or metal housings. Current applications which include its miniature, high performance, high resolution display products are military devices, such as thermal weapon sights, and consumer devices such as digital cameras;devices that are capable of accessing the Internet using digital wireless devices and viewing data or video from other consumer electronics devices such as wireless handsets, smart phones or iPod storage devices. When its display products are configured as spatial light modulators, the applications include industrial equipment for 3D Automated Optical Inspection and cinematography cameras. It sells its displays to Japanese customers through Ryoden Trading Company. It sell its consumer electronic display products both directly and through distributors to original equipment manufacturers. It sells its military display products directly to prime contractors of the U.S. government or to foreign companies. The Company's main competitors includes: AUO, LG Display, Samsung, Sharp, Seiko, and Sony. The company is subject to a variety of federal, state and local governmental regulations related to the use, storage, discharge and disposal of toxic, volatile or otherwise hazardous chemicals used in its manufacturing process.
