1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

Greece, Graham and Natural Gas - Quicksilver Resources - Greece, Graham And Natural Gas - Quicksilver Resources
Quicksilver (KWK) aka Mercury, is a great name for a company drilling for natural gas. While the word "mercurial" is used to refer to something volatile, GuruFocus members are probably more interested in Mercury (greek: Hermes) as a harbinger of wealth. I believe the company is aptly named on both counts. Read more...

Business Description

Quicksilver Resources was organized as a Delaware corporation in 1997 and became a public company in 1999 through a merger with MSR Exploration Ltd. The Company is a Fort Worth-based independent oil and gas company engaged primarily in the acquisition, exploration, development, exploitation and production of natural gas, NGLs and oil onshore in North America. It focuses primarily on unconventional reservoirs where hydrocarbons may be found in challenging geological conditions such as fractured shales, coal beds and tight sands. The Company owns producing oil and natural gas properties in the U.S., principally in Texas, Colorado, Wyoming and Montana, and in Canada in Alberta and British Columbia. The Company sells natural gas, NGLs and crude oil to a variety of customers, including utilities, major oil and gas companies or affiliates, industrial companies, large trading and energy marketing companies and other users of petroleum products. Its operations are affected from time to time in varying degrees by political developments and U.S. and Canadian federal, state, provincial and local laws and regulations. In particular, natural gas and crude oil production and related operations are, or have been, subject to price controls, taxes and other laws and regulations relating to the industry. The Company focuses on three key value drivers: reserve growth; production growth; and improving the Company's cash flows. The Company competes for acquisitions of prospective oil and natural gas properties and oil and gas reserves. It also competes for drilling rigs and equipment used to drill for and produce oil and gas. The Company is subject to a number of federal, provincial and state laws and regulations.
