Louisiana Bancorp Inc was organized as a Louisiana Corporation on March 16, 2007. It is the holding Company for Bank of New Orleans. The Bank operates in the banking/savings, loan industry and accepts deposits from the general public and uses such deposits primarily to originate loans secured by first mortgages on owner-occupied, single-family residences and other properties. The Bank's main sources of funds are deposits, repayments of loans and mortgage-backed securities, maturities of investments and interest-bearing deposits, other funds provided from operations and funds borrowed from outside sources such as the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas, the Federal Reserve and commercial banks. These funds are used for the origination of various loan types including single-family residential mortgage loans, multi-family residential and commercial real estate mortgage loans, home equity loans, lines of credit and other consumer loans. The bank derives its income from interest earned on loans, mortgage-backed and other securities and, to a lesser extent, from fees received in connection with the origination of loans and for other services. The Bank's commercial real estate loans are secured by multi-family residential collateral, non-residential collateral and vacant land. Funds for activities are provided by deposits, amortization of loans, loan prepayments and the maturity of loans, mortgage-backed securities and other investments and other funds from operations. The Bank originates residential home mortgage loans and commercial real estate loans in its market area. The business plan is focused on developing a portfolio of residential home loans and commercial real estate loans that will benefit the residents and small to mid-sized businesses of the New Orleans metropolitan area. The Company competes with banks and other financial institutions, including savings and loan associations, savings banks, finance companies, credit unions and other providers of financial services, such as money market mutual funds, brokerage firms, consumer finance companies and insurance companies. The bank is subject to the regulations of certain Federal and State agencies and undergoes periodic examinations by those regulatory authorities.
