MGP Ingredients Inc is a Kansas corporation incorporated in 2011 and is a holding company. The Company through its subsidiaries is engaged in producing distillery products that are derived from corn and other feedstock including rye, barley, barley malt and milo; and ingredient products derived from wheat flour to serve the packaged goods industry. The Company operates in three segments including distillery products, ingredient solutions, and other. The distillery products segment includes food grade alcohol, along with fuel grade alcohol; distillers feed and corn oil, which are co-products of its distillery operations. Food grade alcohol sold for beverage applications consists of grain neutral spirits and gin, premium bourbon, and corn and rye whiskey. It sells food-grade industrial alcohol for use as an ingredient in foods, personal care products, cleaning solutions, biocides, insecticides, fungicides, pharmaceuticals, and other products. Distillers feed is derived from the residue of corn from alcohol processing operations. Its Fuel grade alcohol is sold for blending with gasoline to increase the octane and oxygen levels of the gasoline. The Ingredient solutions segment includes specialty starches and proteins, commodity starch, and vital wheat gluten (commodity protein). Specialty wheat starches are used or food applications as an ingredient in a variety of food products to affect their nutritional profile, appearance, texture, tenderness, taste, palatability, cooking temperature, stability, viscosity, binding and freeze-thaw characteristics. Important physical properties contributed by wheat starch include whiteness, clean flavor, viscosity and texture. Its Specialty Wheat Starches includes Fibersym Resistant Starch series, FiberRite RW Resistant Starch, Pregel Instant Starch series, and Midsol Cook-up Starch series. Specialty Wheat Proteins includes Arise, Wheatex, HWG 2009 and FP series. Vital wheat gluten is a free-flowing light tan powder which contains approximately 70 to 80 percent protein. The other segment products included plant-based polymers and composite resins manufactured through the further processing of certain of its proteins and starches and wood. The Company purchases corn and other feedstock used in distillery operations from its supplier, Bunge Milling. It purchases wheat flour, the raw material used in the manufacture of its protein and starch products at its Atchison facility, from Ardent Mills. The Company's competitors include Archer-Daniels-Midland Company, The Solae Company, Manildra Milling, Grain Processing Corporation, Beam, Inc., Cargill Incorporated, Ingredion Incorporated, and Penford Corporation. The Company is subject to a broad range of federal, state, local and foreign laws and regulations intended to protect public health and the environment.
