GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

Guru Investment Theses on Mellanox Technologies Ltd

Baron Opportunity Fund Comments on Mellanox Technologies - Apr 20, 2017

We sold about half of our Mellanox Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ:MLNX) position after the company reported a weaker-than-expected fourth quarter and gave first quarter guidance that also missed expectations. In 20/20 hindsight our sale was hasty and in error. As we dug in, we came to the conclusion that the short-term pressure on sales was merely due to timing and certain product transitions. We did not wish to compound our error, and we added back to our position even as the shares recovered. We remain quite confident in the opportunity ahead of Mellanox and its ability to capture it.

Baron Funds Comments on Mellanox Technologies - Aug 10, 2016

Mellanox Technologies, Ltd. (NASDAQ:MLNX) is a provider of high speed networking switches and related equipment. Its products serve two general markets with Infiniband products, typically used for “high performance” computing applications, and its standardized Ethernet products, used for general networking applications. We believe that, combined with the recent acquisition of EZChip (which produces specialized network protocol chips that help direct data traffic), Mellanox has a very strong technology market position. Shares were weak in the quarter due to concerns that Intel is incorporating Infiniband networking functionality in its own chips. While we account for some share loss in the company’s high performance markets, Mellanox is just starting its Ethernet penetration, and we believe that increased growth in Ethernet will more than compensate for this competitive threat. We believe shares are inexpensive, particularly after expected accretion on the EZChip deal, and we believe there is a lot of growth ahead for the company.

Baron Funds Comments on Mellanox Technologies - May 19, 2016

Mellanox Technologies (NASDAQ:MLNX) supplies semiconductor-based interconnect solutions and services. Strong fourth quarter results re-instilled investor confidence in Mellanox’s ability to grow profitably. In addition, the completion of its EZchip acquisition and adjusted guidance laid out a strong financial case for this combination. We view Mellanox’s Ethernet business as a significant open-ended opportunity. We expect Mellanox to be a high-end market leader and protect its high margin business model with strong innovation and product leadership.

Baron Funds Comments on Mellanox Technologies Ltd. - Nov 03, 2015

Shares of semiconductor company Mellanox Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ:MLNX) fell in the third quarter in the wake of its late quarter announcement that it had acquired EZChip (EZCH), creating concerns around the current level of organic growth. Initial results for the third quarter released after quarter end alleviated these concerns and sent the stock back to its pre-M&A levels. We believe the organic growth path for Mellanox remains intact, and this acquisition will be meaningfully accretive to earnings and provide substantial cost and revenue synergies that will accrue to shareholder value over time. (Gilad Shany)
