GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

Magellan Midstream Partners, L.P., was incorporated in Delaware as a limited partnership company on August 2000. Magellan GP, LLC, a wholly-owned Delaware limited liability company, serves as its general partner. The Company is engaged in the transportation, storage and distribution of refined petroleum products. The Company operates in three segments namely refined products segment, crude oil segment and marine storage segment. The refined products segment includes 9,500-mile refined products pipeline system with 53 terminals as well as 27 independent terminals not connected to its pipeline system and its 1,100-mile ammonia pipeline system. The crude oil segment is comprised of approximately 1,100 miles of crude oil pipelines and storage facilities with an aggregate storage capacity of approximately 18 million barrels, of which 12 million is used for leased storage; and marine storage segment consists of marine terminals located along coastal waterways with an aggregate storage capacity of approximately 27 million barrels. The refined products pipeline covers a 15-state area from the Gulf Coast across the central U.S. Its products transported on pipeline are gasoline, distillates, aviation fuels and liquefied petroleum gases. Product originates on its pipeline from direct connections to refineries, at its terminals and through interconnections with other interstate pipelines for transportation and ultimate distribution to retail gasoline stations, truck stops, railroads, airports and other end users. The Company's blending activities involve purchasing liquefied petroleum gases and blending them into gasoline, which creates gasoline available for the Company to sell. Its fractionation activities include two fractionators along its pipeline system that separate transmix, an unusable mixture of various petroleum products, into gasoline and diesel fuel. Its 27 independent terminals are part of a distribution network located principally throughout the southeastern U.S. It faces competition from other pipelines and terminals in the same markets as its assets.
