GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

Gabelli Sells Part of Stake in Myers Industries
Last week, on April 2, guru Mario Gabelli (Trades, Portfolio) did something he has seldom done since 2015 began – he sold a portion of his stake in a company, Myers Industries Inc (NYSE:MYE). It is rarer still for him to sell shares in that particular company; Myers has been in his portfolio for years, and Gabelli sold 12,500 shares in the first quarter of 2014. In the rest of the year, he purchased nearly 600,000 shares. Read more...

Mario Gabelli (Trades, Portfolio), of GAMCO Investors, is known for being a smart, tough investor who uses common sense when looking at stocks to purchase. He is known for being an advocate of the "Graham-Dodd School" of investing, in which Warren Buffett (Trades, Portfolio) was a huge supporter. In short, one could say Gabelli emulates the best.
