Business Description

NetApp, Inc. was incorporated in California in April 1992 and reincorporated in Delaware in November 2001; in March 2008, the Company changed its name from Network Appliance, Inc. to NetApp, Inc. The Company is a supplier of enterprise storage and data management software and hardware products and services. It offers solutions for storing, managing, protecting and archiving business data. It offers highly available, scalable and cost-effective storage solutions that incorporate its unified storage platform and the feature-rich functionality of its data and storage resource management software. The Company's Fabric-Attached Storage (FAS) and V-Series storage solutions are based on Data ONTAP, a highly scalable and flexible operating system that uniquely supports any mix of storage area network (SAN), network-attached storage (NAS) and Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI) environments concurrently. This unified storage software platform is compatible with UNIX, Linux, Windows and Web environments. NetApp's portfolio of efficiency technologies helps its customers reduce their storage spending and get more from storage assets they already own. Some of the efficiency technologies it offers include: FlexVol technology, FlexClone technology and Deduplication technology. Its management software family of products provides a range of storage and data management tools to simplify IT administration and enhance flexibility and productivity. The Company's family of modular, scalable, highly available, unified networked systems provides enterprise data storage services and simplifies data management. These systems are specifically designed with a high level of resiliency for network-centric enterprise IT infrastructures and support network-attached storage, storage area network, and iSCSI environments. NetApp NearStore products are designed to improve data backup and recovery architectures, store reference and regulated data, and archive infrequently accessed files on more economical ATA drives. NearStore systems back up and restore data with speed, consistency, ease of use, and scalability, particularly compared to tape-based backup/restore solutions. The NetCache product line is a scalable suite of Web delivery and security appliances designed to solve complex problems faced by enterprises and service providers. NetApp created an integrated storage appliance that uses highly specialized software for simplifying storage administration and increasing data availability, coupled with industry-standard hardware. The Company's main competiters are EMC, Hitachi Data Systems, HP, IBM, and Oracle Corporation, through its acquisition of Sun Microsystems. The Company has registered its NetApp name and logo, Network Appliancetm name and logo, Data ONTAP, DataFabric, FAServer, FlexVol, FilerView, NearStore, SecureShare, SnapDrive, SnapLock, SnapManager, SnapMirror, SnapRestore, SnapVault, WAFL, and others as trademarks in the United States.
