Ohio Valley Banc Corporation was incorporated under the laws of the State of Ohio on January 8, 1992 and began conducting business on October 23, 1992 and registered as a financial holding company for its subsidiary, The Ohio Valley Bank Company. The Company's main business is community banking. Ohio Valley is also permitted to engage in certain non-banking activities under the provisions of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, such as securities underwriting and dealing activities, insurance agency and underwriting activities and merchant banking/equity investment activities. The Company presently engages in insurance underwriting activities through a minority interest in ProAlliance Corp. The Bank is mainly engaged in commercial and retail banking. It's a full-service financial institution offering a blend of commercial, consumer and agricultural banking services within central and southeastern Ohio as well as western West Virginia. The banking services include the acceptance of deposits in checking, savings, time and money market accounts; the making and servicing of personal, commercial, floor plan and student loans; and the making of construction and real estate loans. The Bank also offers individual retirement accounts, safe deposit boxes, wire transfers and other standard banking products and services. As part of its lending function, the Bank offers credit card services. Its residential real estate loans consist mainly of one- to four-family residential mortgages and carry many of the same customer and industry risks as the commercial loan portfolio. Real estate loans to consumers are secured mainly by a first lien deed of trust with evidence of title in favor of the Bank. Its commercial loan portfolio consists of loans to corporate borrowers mainly in small to mid-sized industrial and commercial companies that include service, retail and wholesale merchants. Consumer loans are secured by automobiles, mobile homes, recreational vehicles and other personal property. Personal loans and unsecured credit card receivables are also included as consumer loans.
