GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

Business Description

ParkerVision, Inc. was incorporated under the laws of the state of Florida on August 22, 1989. It's in the business of innovating fundamental wireless technologies. It design, develop and market its proprietary radio frequency (RF) technologies and products for use in semiconductor circuits for wireless communication products. In addition, it offers engineering consulting and design services to its customers, for a negotiated fee, to assist them in developing prototypes and/or products incorporating its technologies. Its technology can also be applied to non-cellular radio applications such as military radios and cable modems. The company's business operates under a single segment, its business has been mainly focused on the development and marketing of its RF technologies for mobile applications. Its technologies represent unique, proprietary methods for processing RF waveforms in wireless applications, which apply to both transmit and receive functions of a radio transceiver. A portion of its transmit technology is marketed as Direct2Power, or d2p, and enables the transformation of a baseband data signal to an RF carrier waveform, at the desired power output level, in a single unified operation. A portion of its receiver technology is marketed as Direct2Data, or d2d, and enables the direct conversion of an RF carrier to a baseband data signal. Its patent infringement litigation is based on some of its receiver intellectual property (IP). The company has completed the first d2p integrated circuit (IC) which embodied many of the advancements of its technology in 2006; this enabled the company to create partially-integrated prototype radios for demonstration purposes. Since 2006, it has continued to further develop its prototype ICs and related demonstration platforms. The company's prototypes support functionality that is multi-band (meaning multiple frequencies) and multi-mode (meaning multiple cellular standards and corresponding modulation formats). Its ICs support multiple bands of cellular and PCS (Personal Communications Service) frequencies and support the current and emerging cellular standards including GSM/EDGE, CDMA, W-CDMA, and HSUPA. The company faces competition from incumbent providers of transceivers, such as Broadcom, Qualcomm, Intel, Renesas, ST-Ericsson, Fujitsu, MediaTek, and others, as well as incumbent providers of power amplifiers, including companies such as Anadigics, RF Microdevices, and Skyworks, among others.
