Ryder System Inc provides transportation and supply chain management solutions. The Company operates in two segments: Fleet Management Solutions and Supply Chain Solutions .

Ryder System Inc is a Florida corporation founded in 1933. The Company provides transportation and supply chain management solutions. Its operating segments are aggregated into reportable business segments based upon similar economic characteristics, products, services, customers and delivery methods. The Company is reporting its financial performance based on three business segments: Fleet Management Solutions (FMS), which provides full service leasing, commercial rental, contract maintenance, and contract-related maintenance of trucks, tractors and trailers to customers principally in the U.S., Canada and the U.K.; DTS, which provides vehicles and drivers as part of a dedicated transportation solution in the U.S.; and SCS, which provides comprehensive supply chain solutions including distribution and transportation services in North America and Asia. Dedicated transportation services provided as part of an integrated, multi-service, supply chain solution to SCS customers are reported in the SCS business segment. Its geographic areas include United States, Canada, Europe, Mexico and Asia. Its customer base includes enterprises operating in a variety of industries including automotive, industrial, food and beverage service, consumer packaged goods (CPG), transportation and warehousing, technology and healthcare, retail, consumer brands, housing, business and personal services, and paper and publishing. Its FMS business segment competes with companies providing similar services on a national, regional and local level. Its competitors are finance lessors and with truck and trailer manufacturers and independent dealers, who provide full service lease products, finance leases, extended warranty maintenance, rental and other transportation services. Its DTS business segment competes with truckload carriers and other dedicated providers servicing on a national, regional and local level. Competitive factors include price, equipment, maintenance, service and geographic coverage and driver and operations expertise. Its SCS business segment competes with the companies providing similar services, each of which has a different set of core competencies. Its competitors are. handful of multi-service companies across all of its service offerings and industries. It also competes against other companies on specific service offerings or in a specific industry. The Company's business is subject to regulation by various federal, state and foreign governmental agencies. These agencies could institute new laws, rules or regulations or issue interpretation changes to existing regulations at any time.
