R. R. Donnelley & Sons Company was incorporated in the state of Delaware in 1956, as the successor to a business founded in 1864, is the provider of integrated communications. Drawing on a range of proprietary and commercially available digital and conventional technologies deployed across four continents, the Company employs a suite of Internet-based capabilities and other resources to provide premedia, printing, logistics and business process outsourcing products and services to clients in virtually every private and public sector. The Company operates in the commercial print portion of the printing industry, with related product and service offerings designed to offer customers complete solutions for communicating their messages to target audiences. The Company's segments and their products and service offerings are: U.S. Print and Related Service- The U.S. Print and Related Services segment includes the Company's U.S. printing operations, managed as one integrated platform, along with related logistics, premedia and print management services. This segment's products and related service offerings include magazines, catalogs, retail inserts, books, directories, financial print, direct mail, forms, labels, office products, statement printing, premedia and logistics services. International- The International segment includes the Company's non-U.S. printing operations in Asia, Europe, Latin America and Canada. Additionally, this segment includes the Company's business process outsourcing and Global Turnkey Solutions operations. Corporate- Corporate consists of unallocated general and administrative activities and associated expenses including, in part, executive, legal, finance, information technology, human resources, certain facility costs and LIFO inventory provisions. In addition, certain costs and earnings of employee benefit plans, components of net pension and post-retirement benefits expense other than service cost, are included in Corporate and not allocated to operating segments. The print and related services industry, in general, continues to have excess capacity and remains highly competitive. It is the Company's policy to conduct its global operations in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations and other requirements.
