Steelcase Inc. is a Michigan corporation, which was founded in 1912. The Company is engaged in in furnishing the work experience in business, education and healthcare environments. It operates within its Americas and EMEA reportable segments plus an "Other" category. The Company's Americas segment serves customers in the United States, Canada and Latin America. Its portfolio of integrated architecture, furniture and technology products is marketed to corporate, government, healthcare, education and retail customers through the Steelcase, Coalesse, Details, Nurture by Steelcase and Turnstone brands. The Company serve Americas customers mainly through approximately 230 independent and company-owned dealers and it also sells directly to end-use customers. Its EMEA segment serves customers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa mainly under the Steelcase and Coalesse brands, with an emphasis on freestanding furniture systems, storage and seating solutions. The Other category includes Asia Pacific, Designtex and PolyVision. Asia Pacific serves customers in the People's Republic of China (including Hong Kong), India, Japan, Australia, and other countries in southeast Asia, mainly under the Steelcase brand with an emphasis on furniture systems and seating solutions.The Company offer its products and services to customers around the globe, and it has significant sales, manufacturing and administrative operations in North America, Europe and Asia. Its brands provide an integrated portfolio of furniture settings, user-centered technologies and interior architectural products across price points. Its furniture portfolio includes panel-based and freestanding furniture systems and complementary products such as storage, tables and ergonomic worktools. Its interior architectural products include full and partial height walls and doors. products are generally manufactured and shipped within two to six weeks following receipt of order; therefore, it does not view the amount of backlog at any particular time as a meaningful indicator of longer-term shipments. Raw materials include petroleum-based products, steel, other metals, wood, particleboard and other materials and components. Its competitors include as many local and regional manufactures.
