Sherwin-Williams Co was incorporated in Ohio in 1884. The Company is engaged in the development, manufacture, distribution and sale of paint, coatings and related products to professional, industrial, commercial and retail customers mainly in North and South America with additional operations in the Caribbean region, Europe and Asia. The Company has four reportable operating segments: Paint Stores Group, Consumer Group, Global Finishes Group and Latin America Coatings Group. Paint Stores Group segment is engaged in the related business activity of selling paint, coatings and related products to end-use customers. The Paint Stores Group markets and sells Sherwin-Williams branded architectural paint and coatings, protective and marine products, original equipment manufacturer (OEM) product finishes and related items. The Consumer Group develops, manufactures and distributes a variety of paint, coatings and related products to third party customers in the United States and Canada and the Paint Stores Group. The Global Finishes Group develops, licenses, manufactures, distributes and sells a variety of protective and marine products, automotive finishes and refinish products, OEM product finishes and related products in North and South America, Europe and Asia. The Latin America Coatings Group develops, licenses, manufactures, distributes and sells a variety of architectural paint and coatings, protective and marine products, OEM product finishes and related products in North and South America. The Administrative segment includes the administrative expenses of the Company's corporate headquarters site. The Company faces competition from many local, regional, national and international competitors of various sizes in the manufacture, distribution and sale of its paint, coatings and related products. The Company is subject to a wide variety of complex domestic and foreign laws and regulations, and legal compliance risks, including securities laws, tax laws, employment and pension-related laws, competition laws, U.S. and foreign export and trading laws, and laws governing improper business practices.
