GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

Guru Investment Theses on SodaStream International Ltd

Baron Funds Comments on SodaStream International - Feb 21, 2014

Although SodaStream International Ltd. (SODA), which makes a home carbonation product, reported mixed third quarter results with guidance in line with expectations, flavor sales in the U.S. were below expectations. We believe investors wanted to see more strength around the holiday season, and shares were down 20.4% in the fourth quarter. However, we see this as a short term inventory correction following some strong quarters. With 1% U.S. household penetration and a large global opportunity, we see SodaStream riding a sustainable growth trend and benefiting with increased profitability in the coming years. (Gilad Shany)

Baron Funds Comments on SodaStream International Ltd. - Nov 22, 2013

SodaStream International Ltd. (SODA) is the world's leading manufacturer, distributor and marketer of home carbonation systems, with an installed base of about 4.5 million consumers. SodaStream brands are sold in over 50,000 retail stores in 42 countries. The SodaStream system enables consumers to carbonate water and to flavor carbonated beverages at home as an alternative to purchasing pre-packed bottles or cans. This has many important benefits to the consumer, including cost savings, convenience (no hassle with bottles, saves space) and being environmentally friendly (reducing the carbon footprint created by the bottling supply chain).

SodaStream International Ltd. was incorporated in Israel. It manufactures home beverage carbonation systems, which enable consumers to easily transform ordinary tap water instantly into carbonated soft drinks and sparkling water. The Company's products are environmentally friendly, cost-effective, promote health and wellness, and are customizable and fun to use. In addition, its products offer convenience by eliminating the need to carry bottles home from the supermarket, to store bottles at home or to regularly dispose of empty bottles. It develops, manufactures and sells soda makers and exchangeable carbon-dioxide (CO2) cylinders, as well as consumables, consisting of CO2 refills, reusable carbonation bottles and flavors to add to the carbonated water. It currently sells its products through more than 40,000 retail stores in 41 countries. It distributes its products directly in 12 countries and indirectly through local distributors in its remaining markets. The Company's products are sold under the SodaStream brand name in most countries and under the Soda-Club brand name or select other brand names in certain other countries. The Company's soda makers are free-standing, lightweight and compact, have a stylish design and do not require electricity. It offers a wide variety of more than 100 flavors. Several of its flavors, such as its cola flavors, are available in both regular and diet versions, and have similar taste profiles to many popular carbonated soft drinks. It is expanding the variety of natural and 'enhanced' flavors, including fruit, energy and isotonic blends, to satisfy evolving consumer tastes. It manufactures its own reusable carbonation bottles, which are the only bottles intended for use with its machines. It faces competition at several levels. The Company faces direct competition from manufacturers of other home soda makers. Existing competitors in certain regions include AGA and Vikingsoda (Nordics only), Soda 2000, Soda-Quick, Drink-it (India, Sweden), WasserMate, L'acqua di Qui and OBH/Nordica. The Company's products, which include both food products and compressed gas, are regulated by governments in most jurisdictions in which it does business.
