Sonic Corp operates and franchises a chain of quick-service drive-in restaurants in the United States. It also leases signs and real estate.

Sonic Corp was incorporated in the State of Delaware in 1990. The Company operates and franchises the chain of drive-in restaurants ("Sonic Drive-Ins") in the United States. As of the end of the fiscal year on August 31, 2013, the Company includes 3,522 Sonic Drive-Ins in 44 states of which 396 are owned and operated by Sonic Restaurants, Inc., the Company's operating subsidiary and 3,126 are owned and operated by franchises. The Company maintains a diverse menu. The menu includes a variety of traditional and healthy choices as well as creative and fun items. The Company's signature food items include specialty drinks (such as cherry limeades and slushes), ice cream desserts, made-to-order sandwiches and hamburgers, a variety of hot dogs including six-inch premium beef hot dogs and footlong quarter-pound coneys, hand-battered onion rings, tater tots and wraps. It also offers breakfast items that include a variety of breakfast burritos and serve the full menu all day. The marketing plan includes promotions for use throughout the Sonic chain. It has developed and implemented a designed to build the Sonic brand and to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction and repeat business. The Company supports those promotions with television, radio, interactive media, point-of-sale materials, and other media as appropriate. Its competitors include a large number of national, regional, and local food services, including quick-service restaurants and casual dining restaurants.
