Guru Investment Theses on Splunk Inc

Baron Funds Comments on Splunk Inc - Aug 23, 2012

From Baron Funds' second quarter commentary:

Splunk, Inc. (SPLK) is an innovative and unique software platform that enables organizations to gain real-time operational intelligence by harnessing the value of their machine data. Importantly, machine data is "unstructured," meaning that it can't be organized and stored in the traditional row and column format ("structured data") employed by traditional databases and business intelligence tools. We think Splunk has a massive runway given the vast amount of machine data generated by all businesses and the breadth of use cases that can take advantage of Splunk's unique data platform. Indeed, in its first quarter as a public company, Splunk grew its revenues 80% year over year.
