Consumer products and services company Steiner Leisure Ltd. (STNR) declined after the company reported its first quarter earnings. The company did not repurchase shares during the quarter despite declines in its stock price following the late 2013 announcement of a non-renewal by Celebrity Cruise Lines. In addition, the quarter reflected continued weakness in the company’s Ideal Image laser hair removal business. Later in the quarter, the company announced a 10b5-1 plan under which the company can repurchase shares according to a pre-set plan.

Steiner Leisure Ltd was incorporated in the Bahamas as a Bahamian international business company in 1995. The Company is a worldwide provider and innovator in the fields of health, wellness and education. It operates its business through four reportable segments: Spa Operations, Products, Schools and Laser Hair Removal. Through its Spa Operations segment, it offer massages and a variety of other body treatments, as well as a broad variety of beauty treatments to women, men and teenagers on cruise ships and at land-based spas. It conducts its activities pursuant to agreements with cruise lines and owners of its land-based venues that, generally, give it the exclusive right to offer these types of services at those venues. The cruise lines and land-based venue owners, generally, receive compensation based on a percentage of its revenues at these respective locations and, in certain cases, a minimum annual rental or combination of both. As of February 13, 2013, it provided its spa services on 156 ships and at a total of 66 hotel spas located in the United States, the Caribbean, Asia, the Pacific and other locations, and at its day spas in New York City (two spas), Coral Gables and London. In January 2011, it completed the acquisition of the assets of Onboard. Onboard provided spa services and sold spa products on 13 cruise ships, five of which had large spa facilities. Through its Products segment, it develop and sell a variety of high quality beauty products under its Elemis, La Thérapie, Bliss, Remède and Laboratoire Remède brands, and also sell products of third parties, both under its packaging and labeling and otherwise. The ingredients for these products are produced for it by several suppliers, including premier European manufacturers. It sell its products at its shipboard and land-based spas pursuant to the same agreements under which it provide spa services at those locations, as well as through third party outlets and its catalogs and websites. Through its Schools segment, it owns and operates 12 post-secondary schools (comprised of a total of 31 campuses) located in Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Washington. These schools offer programs in massage therapy and, in some cases, beauty and skin care, and train and qualify spa professionals for health and beauty positions. Through its Laser hair Removal segment, it offer a non-invasive procedure for the removal of unwanted facial and body hair in a clinical setting. On November 1, 2011, it acquired all of the issued and outstanding stock of Ideal Image. Ideal Image is a leader in the growing consumer healthcare category of laser hair removal. As a result of its acquisition of Ideal Image, it operate 80 laser hair removal treatments centers and are party to agreements with franchisees, who operate 17 laser hair removal centers offering services under the Ideal Image brand
