Business Description

Sterling Construction Company, Inc. was founded in 1991 as a Delaware corporation. It is a heavy civil construction company that specializes in the building, reconstruction and repair of transportation and water infrastructure. Transportation infrastructure projects include highways, roads, bridges and light rail; Water infrastructure projects include water, wastewater and storm drainage systems. It provides general contracting services mainly to public sector clients utilizing its own employees and equipment, including excavating, concrete and asphalt paving, installation of large-diameter water and wastewater distribution systems; construction of bridges and similar large structures; construction of light rail infrastructure; concrete and asphalt batch plant operation; concrete crushing and aggregates operations. Sterling performs the majority of the work required by its contracts with its own crews and equipment. The Company extended both its service profile and its geographic market reach with the 2009 acquisition of RLW, which has operations primarily in Utah, and the 2011 acquisitions of JBC and Myers with operations in Arizona and California, respectively. It operates in the heavy civil construction segment, specializing in transportation and water infrastructure projects, which it pursue in Texas, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, California, Hawaii and other states. Its operations are subject to compliance with numerous regulatory requirements of federal, state and local agencies and authorities, including regulations concerning safety, wage and hour, and other labor issues, immigration controls, vehicle and equipment operations and other aspects of its business.
