GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

Teekay Tankers Ltd. was incorporated on October 17, 2007 under the laws of the Republic of The Marshall Islands. On December 18, 2007, it completed its initial public offering. The Company's business is to own oil tankers and it employs a chartering strategy that seeks to capture upside opportunities in the tanker spot market while using fixed-rate time charters to reduce downside risks. The company owns 27 owned vessels, two chartered-in vessels and one jointly-owned VLCC. As at February 1, 2013, Its fleet consisted of 30 vessels, including chartered-in vessels, and newbuildings on order. The Company competes in the Aframax and Suezmax crude oil tanker market. Competition arises mainly from other tanker owners, including major oil companies and independent tanker companies, some of which have greater financial strength and capital than it does. Competition for the transportation of oil and oil products depends on price and the location, size, age, condition of the tanker and the acceptability of the tanker and its operators to the charterers. The Company's business and the operation of its vessels are affected by international conventions and national, state and local laws and regulations in the jurisdictions in which its vessels operate, as well as in the country or countries of their registration.
