Teekay Tankers Ltd., was incorporated on October 17, 2007 under the laws of the Republic of The Marshall Islands. On December 18, 2007, it completed its initial public offering. The Company's business is to own oil tankers and it employs a chartering strategy that seeks to capture upside opportunities in the tanker spot market while using fixed-rate time charters to reduce downside risks. The company owns 27 owned vessels, two chartered-in vessels and one jointly-owned VLCC. The Company competes in the Aframax and Suezmax crude oil tanker market. Competition arises mainly from other tanker owners, including major oil companies and independent tanker companies, some of which have greater financial strength and capital than it does. Competition for the transportation of oil and oil products depends on price and the location, size, age, condition of the tanker and the acceptability of the tanker and its operators to the charterers. The Company's business and the operation of its vessels are affected by international conventions and national, state and local laws and regulations in the jurisdictions in which its vessels operate, as well as in the country or countries of their registration.
