Tesco PLC is a retail company that sells groceries, clothing, and general merchandise. The Company through its subsidiaries also offers services such as telecoms, digital entertainment and banking.

Founded in 1919, Tesco is one of the world's leading food retailers, running nearly 6,700 stores across the U.K. and Ireland (77% of sales and 54% of operating profit), Eastern Europe and Asia. It is the leader in the U.K. with 28% market share, around 70% larger than Asda's or J Sainsbury's sales. Tesco is multiformat, running a core supermarket format but also convenience and neighbourhood stores; 11% of its global sales are petrol. Following extensive restructuring and a major price reset, Tesco is now in recovery mode.
