Universal Electronics Inc develops control technology solutions and manufactures and sells re-programmed universal remote control products, AV accessories, and software to enhance home entertainment systems.

Universal Electronics Inc was incorporated under the laws of Delaware in 1986 and began operations in 1987. The Company develops control technology solutions and manufactures and sells re-programmed universal remote control products, AV accessories, and software that are marketed to enhance home entertainment systems. Its customers operate in the consumer electronics market and include subscription broadcasters, OEMs, international retailers, private labels, and companies in the computing industry. The Company also sells integrated circuits, on which its software and universal infrared (IR) code database, or library, is embedded, to OEMs that manufacture wireless control devices, cable converters or satellite receivers for resale in their products. Its offerings easy-to-use, pre-programmed IR and radio frequency (RF) remote controls that are sold primarily to subscription broadcasting providers such as cable, satellite and IPTV, OEMs, retailers, and private label customers; integrated circuits, on which its software and universal device control database is embedded, is sold primarily to OEMs, subscription broadcasting providers, and private label customers; software, firmware and technology solutions that can enable devices such as TVs, set-top boxes, stereos, smart phones, tablets, gaming controllers and other consumer electronic devices to wirelessly connect and interact with home networks and interactive services to control and deliver digital entertainment and information; intellectual property which it licenses primarily to OEMs, software development companies, private label customers, and subscription broadcasting providers; and AV accessories, which are sold, directly and indirectly, to consumers. The Company has compiled an extensive device control code database library that covers over 922,000 individual device functions and approximately 6,400 individual consumer electronic equipment brand names. Outside of North America, it sells its wireless control devices and AV accessories under the One For All and Nevo brand names to retailers. The Company also offers a web-based support resource, www.urcsupport.com, designed specifically for subscription broadcasters. The Company's principal competitors in the subscription broadcasting market are Remote Solutions, Philips Consumer Electronics, and Universal Remote Control. In the international retail and private label markets for wireless controls it competes with Logitech, Philips Consumer Electronics, Ruwido and Sony, as well as manufacturers of wireless controls in Asia.
