William Lyon Homes was incorporated in the State of Delaware on July 15, 1999. On May 21, 2013, the Company completed its initial public offering. The Company together with its subsidiaries is the Western regional homebuilders. It is mainly engaged in the design, construction and sale of single family detached and attached homes in California, Arizona, Nevada, and Colorado. The Company conducts its homebuilding operations through five reportable operating segments; Southern California, Northern California, Arizona, Nevada, and Colorado. The Company designs, constructs and sells various homes designed to meet the specific needs of each of its markets, although it mainly emphasizes sales to the entry-level and first time move-up home buyer markets. As of December 31, 2013, the Company marketed its homes through 32 sales locations. The Company is subject to various local, state and federal statutes, ordinances, rules and regulations concerning zoning, building design, construction and similar matters, including local regulation which imposes restrictive zoning and density requirements in order to limit the number of homes that can ultimately be built within the boundaries of a particular project.
