Xerium Technologies, Inc., was organized in 1999 in connection with the acquisition of the paper technology group of Invensys plc. The Company completed its initial public offering and reorganization on May 19, 2005. The Company is global manufacturer and supplier of two types of consumable products used mainly in the production of paper-clothing and roll covers. The Company's machine clothing and roll cover products are primarily installed on pulp and paper-making machines and play key roles in the process by which raw materials are converted into finished paper. Paper producers rely on the Company's products and services to help improve the quality of their paper, differentiate their paper products, operate their paper-making machines more efficiently and reduce production costs. Its products and services typically represent only a small fraction of a paper producer's overall production costs, yet they reduce costs by permitting the use of lower-cost raw materials and reducing energy consumption. Its products are designed to withstand extreme temperature, chemical and pressure conditions, and are the result of a considerable investment in research and development and sophisticated manufacturing processes. The Company operates in two main business segments: machine clothing and roll covers. In its machine clothing segment, the Company manufactures and sells highly engineered synthetic textile belts that transport paper as it is processed in a paper-making machine. It is used in the forming, pressing and drying stages of paper production, the machine clothing size, form, material and function is custom engineered to fit each individual paper-making machine and process. The Company's roll cover products provide a surface with the mechanical properties necessary to process the paper sheet in a cost-effective manner that delivers the sheet qualities desired by the paper producer. Roll covers are tailored to individual paper-making machines and processes, using different materials, treatments and finishing's. In addition to manufacturing and selling new roll covers, it also provide refurbishment services for previously installed roll covers and manufacture new and rebuilt spreader rolls. It also provide related products and services to customers, both directly and through third party providers, as a growing part of its overall product offering through roll covers sales channels. Its operations are strategically located in the major paper-producing regions of North America, Europe, South America and Asia-Pacific. Its brands include; Huyck Wangner & Weavexx for Machine Clothing; Stowe Woodward for Roll Covers & Spreader Rolls; Mount Hope & Robec for Spreader Rolls; and Xibe for Roll Covers. Its competitors includes; Albany International Corporation, which supplies clothing products, Voith AG, which supplies both clothing and roll products and Metso Corporation, which supplies roll products. It also faces competition from smaller region
