Diamond Hill Investments released their Q2 portfolio today. This is an investment firm that is traded publicly. They manage small cap, small-mid cap and large cap strategies, and hedged strategies.

Diamond Hill is heavily invested in health care and energy stocks. This is what they wrote about energy stocks in their second quarter review:

“Our exposure to the energy sector detracted from second quarter results. However, our long-term secular thesis for energy remains intact, due to the continued tight conditions in worldwide supply and demand for oil and the belief that natural gas will be an increasingly

important fuel for the foreseeable future. In our Long-Short strategy, short positions in the consumer discretionary sector contributed positively to results in the second quarter after rising painfully faster than the overall market in the first quarter. Again, our long-term secular thesis is unchanged. We continue to believe that consumer discretionary spending will likely face secular headwinds for the foreseeable future, due to high unemployment rates, household deleveraging, and tax increases. Finally, we expect economic challenges as a result of the removal of fiscal and monetary stimulus in the coming years.”

Diamond Hill Capital bought more stocks in the first quarter than they sold. Diamond Hill Capital Management Inc. Diamond Hill Capital owns 131 stocks with a total value of $5.7 billion. These are the details of the buys and sells.
