MSI's stock price decline, as reported in this article, is misleading. MOT split into MSI and MMI. The price history shown is for MOT prior to the split and MSI after the split. Since MMI was spun off and represented roughly half of the value of MOT, it is only natural that MSI would be trading lower. The price did not really decline at all, in fact it went up significantly since the split.
