QS Investors is an investment management firm based out of New York City. The company was founded in 1999 as the Quantitative Strategies Group under the leadership of Janet Campagna. QS Investors would launch its PortfolioChoice platform a year later and expand its strategy offerings to include US Active Quantity Equity products and others beginning in 2001. The company would then continue to grow and expand its business offerings, becoming an independently operating firm owned by its employees under the leadership of CEO Janet Campagna and CIO Rosemary Macedo. QS Investors currently operates as a subsidiary of Legg Mason Inc. The firm conducts its research internally and utilizes both quantitative and qualitative analysis to make its investment decisions, benchmarking its performance against various indexes including the MSCI EAFE Total Return Net Index and Citigroup 3 Month Treasury Bill Index. The company invests in public equity and fixed income markets on a global scale, focusing on the core, growth, and value stocks of all cap and large cap companies. QS Investors invests most heavily in the finance sector, which alone makes up over a third of its total asset allocations, and also invests in the information technology, health care, consumer discretionary, industrials, and consumer staples sectors, among others to a lesser degree, in order of decreasing allocation. The company currently has 88 employees, 30 of which are investment professionals. QS Investors has over $4.5 billion in total assets under management spread across 47 accounts, all of which are discretionary. The company caters mainly to investment companies, pooled investment vehicles, and investment advisors, each making up a third of its total client base. QS Investors currently offers a variety of global equity, US equity, liquid alternatives, and customized solutions including funds such as Market Neutral, All Cap Equity, EAFE Equity, and Low Volatility Equity.
