- Apple (AAPL, Financial) +3.98% on news of supplier orders for 75 million 5G iPhones
Headlines for the day included the following:
- Walmart (WMT, Financial) gained 6.27% after announcing a Walmart+ subscription service comparable to Amazon Prime.
- Tesla (TSLA, Financial) was down -4.67% on news of a $5.0 billion equity share distribution agreement.
- The Markit Manufacturing PMI increased to 53.1 in August from 50.9.
- The ISM Manufacturing PMI increased to 56 in August from 54.2. Separately, the ISM Manufacturing New Orders Index increased to 67.6 from 61.5, the ISM Manufacturing Prices Index increased to 59.5 from 53.2 and the ISM Manufacturing Employment Index increased to 46.4 from 44.3.
- Construction spending increased 0.1% in July following a decrease of -0.5%.
- The Treasury held auctions for 119-day bills at a rate of 0.115% and 42-day bills at a rate of 0.090%.
