The major U.S. indexes ended higher for a second day Friday, with only the Nasdaq posting a gain for the week. Across sectors, the Nasdaq Biotech Index reported a gain of 2.13%.
Johnson and Johnson (JNJ, Financial) reported positive results on its Covid-19 vaccine trials. In the Nasdaq Biotech Index, Kodiak Sciences (KOD, Financial) led gains with a return of 10.89% and Inovio Pharmaceuticals (INO, Financial) followed with a gain of 10.21%.

- Carnival Corporation (CCL, Financial) 9.68%

- Durable goods orders increased 0.4% in August, following an increase of 11.7%. Durable goods orders excluding transportation increased 0.4% and durable goods orders excluding defense increased 0.7%.
- According to the Baker Hughes weekly oil rig count, oil rigs increased by six in the U.S., by seven in Canada and by four internationally.

In small-caps, the Russell 2000 closed at 1,474.91 for a gain of 23.09 points or 1.59%. The S&P 600 closed at 834.93 for a gain of 8.13 points or 0.98%. The Dow Jones U.S. Small-Cap Growth Index closed at 10,455.80 for a gain of 178.55 points or 1.74%. The Dow Jones U.S. Small-Cap Value Index closed at 6,658.19 for a gain of 72.08 points or 1.09%.
