US Stocks End Mostly Higher Monday

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 34,393.75 on Monday with a loss of 85.85 points or -0.25%. The S&P 500 closed at 4,255.15 for a gain of 7.71 points or 0.18%. The Nasdaq Composite closed at 14,174.14 for a gain of 104.72 points or 0.74%. The VIX Volatility Index was higher at 16.39 for a gain of 0.74 points or 4.73%.

Monday’s Market Movers

U.S. stocks ended mostly higher Monday, with the Wilshire 5000 up 0.12%. The Nasdaq Composite gained nearly 1% for the day. Tech stock gains were led by semiconductors and social media. The iShares PHLX Semiconductor ETF (SOXX, Financial) gained 1.42% and the Global X Social Media ETF (SOCL, Financial) gained 1.21%. The S&P 500 Materials Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLB) lost-1.23%.

Investors will be watching the Federal Open Market Committee, which begins its June meeting on Tuesday and concludes Wednesday. The Fed has maintained its dovish and transient stance, even with inflation rising considerably. Retail sales and the Producer Price Index will also be released this week.
