Constellation (Nasdaq: CEG), the nation’s largest producer of carbon-free energy, has received the Community Partnership Award from The Center for Energy Workforce Development (CEWD) for its work in building a skilled energy workforce that represents the diverse communities it serves. The award recognizes Constellation’s multi-faceted efforts to establish lasting and impactful relationships with the local community — including educators, minority facing organizations, workforce development nonprofits and others — to fuel the energy talent pipeline. Representatives from Constellation were on hand to receive the honor November 16 during CEWD’s Workforce Development Summit and inaugural Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Forum in Washington, D.C.

“Constellation is dedicated to enabling Americans of all backgrounds to access good-paying jobs, be a part of the growing energy workforce and experience the benefits of the clean energy transition,” said Joe Dominguez, president and CEO, Constellation. “We appreciate CEWD for recognizing our efforts, and this progress is just the beginning. We will continue our commitment to creating family-sustaining careers and investing in all communities.”

“The work being done in the people-part of the industry is astonishing,” said Missy Henriksen, executive director, CEWD. “The partnerships companies, like Constellation, are forming within their communities – with community-based organizations, educators, workforce systems and other stakeholders are making a difference.”

Earlier this fall, Constellation teamed up with CEWD to sponsor its Energy Industry Fundamentals 2.0 program. The interactive, 120-hour curriculum for high school and technical school students aims to provide expanded energy education and career awareness to 500,000 students over the next decade.

Other key Constellation workforce development efforts in 2023 included:

  • Launching the company’s Powering Change Initiative, a $1 million investment with six nonprofit organizations focused on improving job awareness and training, providing advancement and upskilling opportunities and breaking down employment barriers for individuals from underrepresented communities.
  • Signing a historic pledge with North America’s Building Trades Unions to increase access, equity and advancement opportunities for historically underrepresented groups, such as women and communities of color. The pledge also sets standards to eliminate bias and create a culture of belonging in all aspects of recruitment, hiring, training and retention practices.
  • Creating the PowerEd program to expand and amplify its university relationships through on-campus events, scholarships and student mentorship opportunities. The program is also aimed at increasing engagement with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) and other minority-serving institutions to improve diversity within STEM majors.
  • Hosting the first-ever Constellation Youth Energy Summit to convene 35 10th and 11th graders from diverse backgrounds for a weeklong immersive experience to learn about clean energy careers.
  • Launching Constellation Scholars to provide $1.5 million in scholarships over a 10-year period, helping collegebound students across the U.S. set a foundation to attain good-paying, family-sustaining careers in energy and STEM fields.
