Slim built his fortune by expanding his presence from one to 29 countries, increasing his share in America Movil from 4 percent to 40 percent and developing Inbursa, Frisco, Ideal and Grupo Sanborns, under the banner of Grupo Carso, in finance, mining, infrastructure, retail and other sectors. Slim focuses much of his energy on education, health, employment and development in Mexico and Latin America. He has been involved in numerous regional and global philanthropic projects and received many honors. In 2012, former U.S. President Clinton recognized his contributions with a Clinton Global Citizen Award. Recently, Slim joined Bill Gates in committing to fund research to improve agricultural yields and reduce hunger.
