The Nasdaq Composite closed at 6,203.19 for a loss of 7.00 points or 0.11%. The VIX Volatility Index was higher for the day at 10.38 for a gain of 0.57 points or 5.81%.
Tuesday’s market movers
Lower oil prices and bank stocks kept market valuations down for the day. Economic reports affecting market trading included the following:
- Personal income showed an increase of 0.4% for the month. The PCE Price Index increased 1.7% for the year.
- The S&P Corelogic Case-Shiller Home Price Index increased 0.9% on a seasonally adjusted basis for the month. For the year the Index reported a 5.9% increase.
- The Conference Board’s Consumer Confidence Index decreased to 117.9 from 119.4.

In the broad market, energy stocks led losses. Technology stocks in the S&P 500 were higher with a gain of 0.43%.
