The S&P 500 Index closed at 2680.50 for a loss of -2.84 points or -0.11%. The Nasdaq Composite closed at 6936.25 for a loss of -23.71 points or -0.34%. The VIX Volatility Index was higher at 10.25 with a gain of 0.35 points or 3.54%.
Tuesday's Market Movers
Stocks were lower Tuesday with Apple leading declines on lower expectations for iPhone X demand. Technology stocks overall reported the greatest losses with the S&P 500 technology sector down -0.67%. Crude prices gained causing increases in energy stocks and helping the sector to report the day’s greatest gains. The S&P 500 energy sector reported an increase of 0.88%.
The S&P Corelogic Case-Shiller HPI was the only leading economic report on the calendar Tuesday. The Index reported a 0.7% seasonally adjusted monthly increase and a 6.4% yearly increase.
