NEW YORK, April 11, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Fiduciary Trust Company International, a global wealth manager and wholly-owned subsidiary of Franklin Templeton Investments, is proud to announce that Paulina Mejia, regional managing director, head of the New York office, and trust counsel, has been selected by Crain’s New York Business for the publication’s inaugural list of “Notable Women in Finance in NYC.”

“Paulina is a valuable member of our team as well as the New York City financial community,” said John M. Dowd, chief executive officer of Fiduciary Trust Company International. “Paulina has been dedicated to her community throughout her career, and has brought her personal and professional experience to our clients throughout Greater New York to help them utilize their wealth to maximize their impact on society. We are proud of her for achieving this well-deserved recognition from Crain’s New York Business.”

The annual Crain’s New York Business listing of “Notable Women in Finance in NYC” recognizes women financial professionals who demonstrate outstanding and impactful leadership in their firms as well as their local communities. Honorees are profiled in a special feature published in print and online (http://www.crainsnewyork.com/assets/pdf/CN11500345.PDF).

Fiduciary Trust has a history of notable women driving its business. The firm’s former CEO, Anne M. Tatlock, was the first woman to serve as CEO of a major trust company. Gail E. Cohen, general trust counsel, is currently chair of Fiduciary Trust’s board of directors.

“I am very fortunate to be in a position where I can advise and educate our clients, and work with women and families to effectively protect, grow, and transfer their values and wealth,” said Ms. Mejia. “The collaboration and mentorship emphasized by Fiduciary Trust make it possible to enhance people’s lives inside and outside of our organization. I am grateful to Crain’s New York Business for this honor.”

Ms. Mejia is responsible for leading and growing Fiduciary Trust’s private wealth business in the Greater New York region. She works directly with high-net-worth clients to develop and implement charitable, estate, and wealth transfer plans, and also serves as a member of Fiduciary Trust’s Operating Committee. Ms. Mejia has worked with wealthy individuals and families on complex trust and estate matters for more than 15 years, first as an attorney focused on trusts and estates and now as a wealth advisor. She joined Fiduciary Trust last year.

In addition, Ms. Mejia serves on several legal industry boards and committees, including the Association of the Bar of the City of New York’s Trusts, Estates & Surrogate’s Court Committee and the American Bar Association’s Section of Real Property, Trust and Estate Law. She is co-chair of the American Bar Association’s Non-Tax Issues Affecting the Planning and Administration of Estates and Trusts Committee. Ms. Mejia is also a member of Trusts & Estates magazine’s Family Business Committee.

Beyond her professional commitments, Ms. Mejia is a member of New York-Presbyterian Hospital’s Planned Giving Advisory Council, as well as the New-York Historical Society’s Planned Giving Advisory Council. Ms. Mejia partnered with New York-Presbyterian Hospital for a women’s initiative on healthcare, organizing an event held at the hospital which educated women investors about healthcare innovations and the healthcare sector as a whole. Eight years ago, she co-founded the Public Prep Network’s Leadership Board to enable professionals from a variety of industries to advocate, raise funds, and volunteer for Public Prep’s single-sex charter schools in New York City. Ms. Mejia received a single-sex education in high school, and her work with the Public Prep Network’s Leadership Board stems from her belief that the educational and developmental benefits of single-sex education should be available for all girls, regardless of socioeconomic background.
