U.S. market indexes were lower on Thursday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 24,664.89 for a loss of -83.18 points or -0.34%. The S&P 500 closed at 2,693.13 for a loss of -15.51 points or -0.57%. The Nasdaq Composite closed at 7,238.06 for a loss of -57.18 points or -0.78%. The VIX Volatility Index was higher at 16.05 for a gain of 0.45 points or 2.88%.

Thursday’s market movers

Decreased momentum in first-quarter earnings kept stocks lower on Thursday. Sectors leading losses included consumer staples, real estate, materials and technology.
