Overview:

Doubleline Capital's Jeffrey Gundlach spoke at the 2018 Sohn Conference in New York. During his presentation, he laid out a long thesis for the SPDR S&P Oil & Gas Exploration and Production exchange-traded fund (XOP, Financial) and a short thesis for Facebook (FB, Financial).

After his presentation, he was interviewed by CNBC about his presentation. Gundlach believes it is time to go long on commodities due to inflation and historical patterns. He explained why commodity prices spike toward the end of a bull market, right before a recession hits.

The investor also discussed the many signals of inflation and other economic indicators. He believes there is a good chance we could be in a recession in the first quarter of 2019. He is not completely sure when the cycle will end, however, so he could be wrong.
