Rising Treasury yields continued to be a factor for U.S. indexes on Tuesday. Disappointing earnings for 3M (MMM, Financial) and lower technology stocks also contributed to losses. The S&P 500 technology sector reported a loss of -1.74% and the S&P 500 industrial sector reported a loss of -2.79%.
Economic reports affecting market trading included the following:
- The S&P Corelogic Case-Shiller Home Price Index reported a monthly gain of 0.8% and an annual gain of 6.8%.
- The FHFA House Price Index reported a monthly gain of 0.6% and an annual gain of 7.2%.
- New home sales were reported at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 694,000.
- The Conference Board’s Consumer Confidence Index increased to 128.7 from 127.0.
