The Nasdaq Composite closed at 7,606.46 for a gain of 52.13 points or 0.69%. The VIX Volatility Index was lower at 12.73 for a loss of -0.73 points or -5.42%.
Monday’s market movers
The technology sector helped U.S. market indexes to gain Monday. Positive insights around Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference fueled valuations in the sector. Apple (AAPL, Financial) itself gained 0.84%, reporting a record closing high of $191.83 on Monday. The Nasdaq Composite also reported a record closing high with a gain of 0.69% on Monday.
Factory orders was the only major report on the economic calendar Monday. Factory orders reported a -0.8% monthly increase following a 1.7% increase in the prior month.
