Monday’s market movers
Global trade affected stocks on Monday. Reports showed that President Trump planned to move forward with the next round of tariffs on Chinese goods, potentially bringing the total value of goods affected by new U.S. tariffs to $250 billion. Meanwhile, Trump administration delegates are expected to meet with China in September for further negotiations.
Across the market, technology, consumer discretionary and financial stocks led losses for the day. Oracle (ORCL, Financial) and FedEx (FDX, Financial) reported earnings. Coca-Cola (KO, Financial), Aurora Cannabis (ACBFF, Financial) and other cannabis stocks gained on Monday with Coca-Cola discussing new drinks, including cannabis products.
There were no major reports on the economic calendar. The Treasury held auctions for three-month bills and six-month bills at the following rates: three-month, 2.125%; six-month, 2.290%.
