Thursday’s market movers
A selloff continued in U.S. equities Thursday. Treasury yields were mostly stable albeit at higher levels. The 10-year Treasury closed at 3.14% and the one year at 2.73%. Investors were also watching bank stocks and the financial sector outlook, with the big banks reporting third-quarter earnings Friday and Monday. Sectors leading losses for the day included energy, financial and real estate.
Economic reports affecting market trading included the following:
- The Consumer Price Index was up 0.1% in September and 2.2% annually.
- Jobless claims were reported at 214,000, down from 270,000.
- The Treasury held a 30-year bond auction at a rate of 3.344%.
