Monday’s market movers
U.S. market indexes rebounded on Friday after consecutive losses last week, but couldn’t sustain gains Monday. Citigroup (C), JPMorgan (JPM), PNC (PNC) and Bank of America (BAC) have all beat expectations. Treasury yields were higher and widespread selling in tech stocks were the main detractors for the day. In the S&P 500, technology and energy led losses.
Economic reports affecting market trading included the following:
- Retail sales increased 0.1% for the month of September and 4.7% annually.
- Business inventories increased 0.5% in August.
- The Treasury held three-month and six-month auctions at the following rates: three-month, 2.270%; six-month, 2.415%.
- The U.S. government’s September monthly budget report showed a surplus of $119 billion.

The Dow Jones Small-Cap Growth TSM Index closed at 9,717.93 for a gain of 34.20 points or 0.35%. The Dow Jones Small-Cap Value TSM Index closed at 9,673.99 for a gain of 66.80 points or 0.70%.
