U.S. market indexes ended a three-day winning streak but ended in positive territory for the week and year. Losses were influenced by the highest trade deficit report in seven months and a drop in Apple shares after the company’s earnings report. Apple was down 6.63% on Friday after beating estimates but disappointing analysts on sales guidance.
Economic reports affecting market trading included the following:
- The October Employment report was released, showing 250,000 new nonfarm payrolls, beating the consensus outlook of 190,000. The unemployment rate was unchanged at 3.7%.
- The Balance of Trade report showed a deficit of -$54 billion, higher than consensus of -$53.6 billion.
- Factory orders increased 0.7% in September, beating consensus of 0.5%.
