The Nasdaq Composite closed at 7,200.87 with a loss of 206.03 points or -2.78%. The VIX Volatility Index was higher at 20.37 for a gain of 3.01 points or 17.34%.
Monday’s market movers
U.S. market indexes closed lower Monday. Oil prices continued to be one of the top factors as oil reported an 11th day of consecutive declines. The commodity could see some relief in the weeks ahead as Saudi Arabia and OPEC discussed production cuts over the weekend, which will be finalized in OPEC’s December meeting. Tech was also lower Monday with bearish analyst activity in the sector.
There were no major economic reports on the calendar for Monday. Bond markets, banks and federal services were closed for the Veterans Day holiday.
In the S&P 500, technology and energy led losses. Across the market, top movers included Goldman Sachs (GS, Financial) down 7.79%, Eastman Kodak (KODK, Financial) up 17% and GNC (GNC, Financial) down 19%.
