Stocks closed lower Tuesday after the three-day holiday weekend. International relations continued to be a key factor for investors. Following a visit to Japan, President Trump commented that the U.S. is not yet ready for a deal with China. Over the weekend, a federal judge also stopped the Trump administration’s border wall plans.
Economic reports affecting market trading included the following:
- The S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price Index increased 0.7% in March and 2.7% year over year.
- The FHFA House Price Index increased 0.1% in March.
- The Conference Board’s Consumer Confidence Index increased to 134.1 from 129.2.
- The Treasury held auctions for two-year notes at a rate of 2.125%, six-month bills at a rate of 2.32%, three-month bills at a rate of 2.310% and five-year notes at a rate of 2.065%.
