Cerebras Systems CBRS shares soared 15% on Monday after Wedbush said OpenAI's latest use of its technology could represent further development in their commercial relationship.
Analyst Matt Bryson pointed to OpenAI's decision to use Cerebras systems for the Ultrafast version of GPT-5.6 Sol. The mode is designed for applications where response speed is important and can process requests up to 14 times faster than OpenAI's standard mode.
OpenAI is initially making the feature available to a limited customer group. Early applications include financial analysis, security, customer support, commerce and live research, with Jane Street, Podium, Basis and Rogo among early users.
Wedbush also noted that OpenAI has committed to using 750 megawatts of Cerebras capacity by 2028. The agreement provides room for additional capacity or longer contract periods through 2030, according to the analyst.
The companies agreed in April to a $20 billion arrangement under which Cerebras will supply OpenAI with chip-powered systems over three years. OpenAI also agreed to provide about $1 billion toward Cerebras data center development.
