GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

Cabot Microelectronics Corp is the supplier of polishing slurries & a growing polishing pad, used in the manufacture of integrated circuit devices within the semiconductor industry, in a process called chemical mechanical planarization.

Cabot Microelectronics Corp was incorporated in the state of Delaware in October 1999. The Company is a supplier of high-performance polishing slurries used in the manufacture of integrated circuit (IC) devices within the semiconductor industry, in a process called chemical mechanical planarization (CMP). CMP is a polishing process used by IC device manufacturers to planarize or flatten many of the multiple layers of material that are deposited upon silicon wafers in the production ofICs. The Company develops, produces and sells CMP slurries for a wide range of polishing applications of materials that conduct electrical signals, including tungsten, copper and tantalum. Slurries for polishing tungsten are used heavily in the production of memory devices for a multitude of end applications such as computers, MP3 players, cellphones, gaming devices, digital photography and digital video recorders, as well as in mature logic applications such as those used in automobiles. It also develops, manufactures and sells slurry products used to polish the dielectric insulating materials that separate conductive layers within logic and memory IC devices. It develops, produces and sells CMP polishing pads, which are consumable materials that work in conjunction with CMP slurries in the CMP polishing process. It develops and produces CMP slurries for polishing the materials that coat rigid disks and magnetic heads used in hard disk drives for computer and other data storage applications, which represent an extension of its core CMP slurry technology and manufacturing capabilities established for the semiconductor industry. Through its QED subsidiary, it designs and produces precision polishing and metrology systems for optic applications that allow customers to attain near-perfect shape and surface finish on a range of optical components such as mirrors, lenses and prisms. The Company markets its products through direct sales to its customers, although it uses distributors in select areas. Metal oxides, such as silica and alumina, are raw materials it uses in many of its CMP slurries. It faces competition from other CMP consumables suppliers, and it also might face competition in the future from changes in technology or emerging technologies. The Company's facilities are subject to various environmental laws and regulations, including those relating to air emissions, wastewater discharges, the handling and disposal of solid and hazardous wastes, and occupational safety and health.

Cabot Microelectronics Corporation Increases Quarterly Cash Dividend

Aurora, IL, March 07, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Cabot Microelectronics Corporation ( CCMP), the world’s leading supplier of chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) polishing slurries and a growing CMP pad supplier to the semiconductor industry, today announced that its Board of Directors has declared a quarterly cash dividend of $0.20 per share on the company's common stock, an increase of eleven percent over the quarterly cash dividend paid since the initiation of its regular dividend program in January, 2016. The dividend will be payable on or about April 28, 2017 to shareholders of record at the close of business on March 23, 2017. David Li, President and CEO of Cabot Microelectronics, stated, “Our track record of strong cash generation has enabled us to execute a balanced capital deployment strategy, including organic investments, dividends, share repurchases and acquisitions. We are pleased to now increase our quarterly dividend, which we believe demonstrates our confidence in our ongoing cash generation and our continued commitment to delivering value to our shareholders.” Since becoming a public company in 2000, Cabot Microelectronics has distributed approximately $730 million to shareholders through a combination of dividends and share repurchases, or nearly 100 percent of its cumulative net income.
