GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

DISH Network Corp provides a direct broadcast satellite subscription television service in the United States. It offers pay-TV services under the DISH brand and the Sling brand.

Dish Network provides pay-television service to 13.6 million customers in the United States, of which we estimate 12.4 million are served via a network of owned and leased satellites. The remainder are served under the Sling brand utilizing the Internet. Dish has purchased wireless spectrum covering the U.S. through a series of transactions and government auctions over the past five years. It is now seeking ways to put that spectrum to use, potentially via a partnership with an existing carrier.

Guru Investment Theses on DISH Network Corp

Mario Gabelli Comments on DISH Network Corp - Jul 27, 2016

DISH Network Corp. (NASDAQ:DISH) (1.8%) (DISH – $52.40 – NASDAQ) is the fourth largest pay television provider in the U.S., serving approximately 14 million subscribers through its original satellite business and newer Sling internet delivered over-the-top offering. Founder Charlie Ergen owns approximately 53% of DISH’s shares. DISH has accumulated a significant spectrum position at attractive prices. DISH could monetize its spectrum through a sale of the spectrum or the whole company, or, more likely, a partnership with an existing wireless operator.

Mario Gabelli Comments on DISH Network Corp - Nov 23, 2015

DISH Network Corp. (NASDAQ:DISH)(3.3%) (DISH – $58.34 – NASDAQ) is the third largest pay television provider in the U.S. with approximately 14 million subscribers. As a satellite operator unburdened by local franchising requirements and wired plants, DISH can market and deliver video extremely efficiently across the entire country. As founder of the company, Charlie Ergen owns approximately 53% of DISH’s shares and lends his strategic vision to its benefit. DISH has accumulated a significant spectrum position at attractive prices and unsuccessfully attempted to enter the mobility market via the acquisition of Sprint. DISH could monetize its spectrum through a sale of the spectrum or the whole company, or, more likely, a partnership with an existing wireless operator.
