Patterson Companies Inc is a value-added specialty distributor. It operates through its two strategic business units, Patterson Dental and Patterson Animal Health, offering similar products and services to different customer bases.

Based in Minnesota, Patterson is a premier distributor within the dentistry, veterinarian, and production animal markets. Those segments represent roughly 42%, 30%, and 27% of total revenue, respectively. Patterson also sells practice operating software and additional services, including consulting, equipment financing, and repair services. Approximately 20% of Patterson's sales are outside the United States.
