Jump Trading, LLC

Jump Trading is an electronic trading services company based out of Chicago, Illinois. The company was established by Bill DiSomma and Paul Gurinas, both of whom are still with the company today acting as its CEOs. Jump Trading claims it is quietly setting the standard for sophisticated trading strategies and has competed with many other firms in order to utilize the fastest fiber optic networks for trading. Jump Trading has been “at the forefront of algorithmic trading” since it was founded in 1999 and, despite its position within the industry, has kept a low profile in terms of publicity. In fact, outside of the electronic trading industry it is hardly known. Jump Trading has grown from its inception to now operate with over 400 employees with offices in Chicago and New York and international offices in London and Singapore. As The company maintains a flat organizational structure and has organized its internal infrastructure into independent trading teams that operate as autonomous cost centers. Even within Jump Trading itself the secretive ethic applies as individual teams do not share trading strategies and instead compete with each other for tech and resources. The company invests in a variety of sectors, focusing mainly on the finance sector which alone makes up over two thirds of its entire asset allocations, and also invests in a variety of other sectors including information technology, consumer discretionary, materials, and health care sectors, among others to a lesser degree, in order of decreasing allocation. Jump Trading has a relatively low average held length of under two quarters and its turnover rate is very high with almost all of its held assets being exchanged during the last quarter. The company’s holdings are also very concentrated with its current top 10 holdings making up almost two thirds of its total holdings.
